Consider IP licenses for external developers

According to Warner Bros. Discover CEO David Zaslav, the company is considering licensing its intellectual property rights to external development studios.

With brands like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Batman, Superman and many more, Warner Bros. Games has a huge pool of strong IPs of its own.

Despite this, the company reported a 41 percent drop in revenue last quarter, largely due to the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Recently, reports have been circulating suggesting a possible sale of parts of Warner Bros. Discovery’s video game division.

During the quarterly business conference, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav opened up another possibility to offset the sharp decline.

According to Zaslav, they are currently considering licensing some of their intellectual property rights to other, external development studios in the future:

“We have 11 studios here, and we have a lot of IPs. And there is also a lot of interest from others who want to come and use some of these IPs for games, which we are considering. Because as JB [Perrette, President of Global Streaming and Games] said, we need to get bigger, and the IPs that we own and the value they have in the gaming space is something we want to exploit.”
