It had already been hinted at in the rumor mill, and now it’s official: A PlayStation exclusive game that has been in the works for years will no longer be released. The title has been discontinued.
Do you happen to remember gamescom 2014? At that time, Sony had announced the PlayStation exclusive game WiLD in cooperation with the developer Wild Sheep Studio. The title from the legendary video game developer Michel Ancel, the creator of Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil, was supposed to be an ambitious survival game that was announced exclusively for the PlayStation 4 at the time.
After the original announcement, the project went largely quiet, with only sporadic small updates on the current status – and not for years now. Accordingly, the rumor mill had already begun to show that a release of WiLD was unlikely to happen. And now there is official confirmation!
Steven ter Heide, Creative Director at Wild Sheep Studio, responded to a tweet on X in which a fan had asked about the status of the project. The studio employee then confirmed that WiLD is unfortunately no longer actively being developed and will therefore no longer be released. However, ter Heide did not comment on the exact time of the cancellation or the background.
Previously, renowned insider Jeff Grub had already reported that WiLD was probably discontinued no later than 2021; active work on the game has therefore probably been stopped for some time. Rumor has it that the Montpellier-based studio may have stopped development when Michel Ancel left the game development team in September 2020.
