Today marks exactly two months since Apple held WWDC 2024 and the first beta of the new macOS 15 Sequoia was released. This new version of macOS is, in my opinion, one of the the best and most complete of recent years for the large amount of news it brings.
Although the public betas still need some polishing, this has been enough time to maintain this good opinion of Sequoia. However, There are also some limitations which will make this release, at least initially, too similar to the still current macOS 14 Sonoma.
The best of macOS Sequoia won’t come to Europe (for now)
The main reasons why macOS Sequoia stands out are also the ones that generate the most controversy. I mean all about artificial intelligence and iPhone remote controlwhich are the key new features of this future update for Mac.
Regarding Apple Intelligence, the Mac will come to bring us functions identical to those of the iPhone, being a set of deep models that work mainly locally and will allow us to make all kinds of requests. For example, ask Siri when our friend Paquito will arrive in town. The AI will be able to dive into our messages and emails to find all the contacts with Paquito and tell us when he arrives (for example, if he has attached a screenshot of his plane ticket and the landing time is indicated).
However, Apple Intelligence has four limitations today. The first is that it can’t be tested yet even in beta, the second is that when it arrives (after version 15.0) it will only be in US English, the third is that it will only be compatible with M1, M2 and M3 Macs. The fourth and most important is that In the European Union we will not be able to benefit from it. And not because of the language, but because Apple is looking for a formula to adapt this novelty to the new European regulation, led by the DMA.
Yes I have to say that With the developer beta, you can try it now with a simple and easy modification of the settings. Of course, at Applesfera we do not recommend installing developer betas to anyone who is not part of this profile, macOS 15.1 being precisely a beta for them.
We can control iPhone from Mac if we live in Europe, but with tricks
Another flagship feature in beta is the iphone remote control. We can operate the entire device without even having to have it nearby. This is something that we have been able to test in the betas, although using an American Apple account, since it will be another function not available to those of us who live on the old continent.
What options will be available to get started with macOS 15.0
Not being able to take full advantage of these features of macOS Sequoia leaves us with a bittersweet taste, although we hope that sooner or later they will end up arriving in their entirety and in Spanish. What we can try are other very interesting news and they will also arrive in September with the first stable version.
One of them is the improved window management
Although to celebrate the one I lived with new “Passwords” application. After years of having to manage everything in an unintuitive keychain or from the settings, we finally have an application in which we can manage all our passwords and 2FA, in addition to obtaining security recommendations and even saving Wi-Fi keys. In this case too, it is a simple and intuitive application that may not be enough. heavy users apps like “1Password”, but in my case it’s more than enough.
Of course, I don’t forget game mode that Apple will integrate so that triple-A games can be widely enjoyed on devices equipped with “M” series chips. It’s not that it’s great playerbut knowing that the Mac will reduce its resources to focus on improving gaming performance will push me to try more.
