Mortal Kombat: After 28 years: indexation removed

indexation, Kombat, Mortal, removed, Years

Signs and wonders are still happening: after more than 25 years, Mortal Kombat and his successor have returned from exile and are, so to speak, rehabilitated.

Mortal Kombat is one of the game series that migrate to the BPjM index with great regularity due to their explicit depiction of violence. Even the first part, which at that time (1992 to be more precise) was actually developed as a competition for the street fighter series by Ed Boon and John Tobias, caused a sensation. The reason, of course: the rabid finishers, with whom you could break down your opponents into individual parts.

The first part caused a lot of attention in this regard, but was also able to sell extremely well due to these features. The youth protection group found the game anything but funny, so that in 1994 the USK not only indicated it, but even confiscated it, as did its successor. The seizure was lifted in 2005, but the indexing remained.

In the current newsletter of the BPjM it was announced that both titles are free, as it were, because the indexing has now been removed. Mortal Kombat and its successors can therefore again be sold, advertised and acquired quite legally.
