Ready at Dawn, a California-based studio and long-time close collaborator of Sony, has just been closed by Meta, which owned it since 2020.

Teams suffered several waves of layoffs before Meta finally decided to close the studio permanently in order to comply with the new budget cap of Reality Labs (formerly Oculus VR), the Meta subsidiary dedicated to virtual reality development. Remaining employees are now encouraged by Meta to apply to other teams at Oculus Studios.

The studio first became known with the spin-off Daxter released on PSP and PS2. Ready at Dawn then continued working on Sony’s portable console and gradually developed it further
