Hellraiser 2’s latest update, Freedom Upgrades, has not been well received by fans, so much so that players are protesting by letting Automata win.

Last week, Hellstalkers 2 developer Arrowhead released one of the game’s biggest updates in recent memory, but it didn’t take long for players to get upset about the nerfs, causing the game’s Steam rating to drop to a mixed bag. Even Arrowhead’s CEO said that many developers themselves were unhappy with how things were going. While these Steam reviews are obviously one way players are expressing their displeasure, there’s another, perhaps even more drastic tactic at play, as GamesRadar discovered. As can be seen from popular posts on the game’s subreddit and an unofficial Hellstalkers 2 galaxy map, many players simply refuse to take down any automatons, and now the robotic bad guys are getting worryingly close to Super-Earth.

Let the robots go. Let the super-Earths burn.

“I’m going to make the galaxy free again to the last drop of my blood, and if I can’t save it from your failed governance democracy, then let the galaxy burn!” wrote one user on Reddit, who is clearly still trying to stay in character, as many players have been disappointed since the game’s release earlier this year. Another user even pointed out that a robot invasion of a Super Earth due to players refusing to play the game due to nerfs is actually quite “realistic”, saying: “Bad guns and bad artillery lose wars! So, we can’t defend a Super Earth because our enemies have better weapons than us, and the Super Earth can only produce garbage for us to fight.”

Obviously, it’s unclear whether Arrowhead actually explains why the automatons got so close to Super-Earth and might even successfully invade the planet, so we’ll have to see how long this situation lasts. An exaggerated explanation for why the Helldivers suddenly won might not be too satisfying, so it’s a difficult line to balance – let’s hope the developers manage to address players’ concerns before the war is over.
