Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone: Survival shooter gets a sequel

Do you remember Chernobylite? At first glance a STALKER clone, but actually quite different? Well, the game from 2021 is getting a sequel.

In 2021, Chernobylite was released, an ambitious, idiosyncratic game from the Polish studio Farm 51, which superficially was very reminiscent of its Ukrainian model, but was ultimately quite different – with a story, NPC missions and base building. Yours truly did the test of Chernobylite at the time and the result was:

“Chernobylite is a strange game. It’s neither a role-playing game nor a shooter, and it’s not base-building or survival horror either, but it’s a bit of everything. Sometimes a bit boring in the side missions, then again nerve-wracking and exciting due to its strong atmosphere. Sometimes wonderfully told, then again strangely superficial. Sometimes beautiful and then again technically bumpy. Chernobylite is definitely ambitious, even if not every idea is really well implemented.”

As strange as the game was, it had its own charm and the developers put a lot of work into it even after the release. Apparently not anymore, because now it’s time for the newly announced sequel Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone, which is due to be released for PC and consoles in 2025.

Once again, you’re heading into the radioactive exclusion zone of the famous reactor as a planewalker, and the core elements of the predecessor are apparently being used again. “Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone is a post-apocalyptic action role-playing game that combines the exploration of a huge and highly realistic open world, challenging battles, a unique crafting system, and team and base management with a non-linear storyline,” the description says. In addition, there is now the option to play missions from the single-player campaign in online co-op.

Based on the experience the developers gained from the first game, this could indeed be an interesting game. The starting points for improvements are obviously game progression, customization, more variable battles and an improved post-battle system, as well as more focus on comrades, factions and base building. Okay, sounds good, let’s wait and see.
