The final season of Virgin River was full of drama for Mel and her town. The community had to come together to fight off wildfires, while Mel made a major discovery that would change her family’s life forever.
Netflix’s adaptation of Robyn Carr’s novels continues to be a huge success on the platform, and the series has been renewed for another installment. The final episodes aired around Christmas 2023, and many fans thought they would have to wait a long time for the show to return. Fortunately, production has moved forward faster than expected.

When could Virgin River season 6 be released on Netflix?
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos revealed during its second-quarter earnings call that Virgin River would be returning by the end of 2024and not in 2025 as initially planned.
Star Alexandra Breckenridge later corroborated this on her Instagram Stories (via the Express), saying: “I’m curious. I know it was announced that season 6 will air this year in 2024, whereas before this year we didn’t think it would air until 2025.
“I know exactly what date it is. But I can’t tell you.”
The last two episodes aired on November 30. So if the show were to follow an annual cycle, end of November 2024 This would make sense. However, it is only an estimate.
We should learn more in the coming months.
What will be the plot of Virgin River season 6?
Spoilers for Virgin River Season 5 Below
Mel and Jack faced some of their biggest challenges yet in Season 5. The biggest event of the season was the wildfire, which nearly destroyed the quaint town. Luckily, everyone pulled together, and Jack had his own heroic moment by borrowing a plane and putting out the fire with water.
However, Mel sadly suffered a miscarriage during the event. Reliving that pain again after giving birth to a stillborn child earlier in her life was traumatic for both her and Jack, and the couple will be looking for a way to move forward and heal.
According to Tudum’s interview with Breckenridge, Mel and Jack may be looking for other ways to expand their family besides the traditional pregnancy. “Obviously, Mel was hit a lot harder than Jack, but I think they were able to get through it together as a couple.”
Jack is still eager to build his own family unit, especially now that he learned that Charmaine lied to him about being the father of his twins. In the festive finale, we learned that Calvin, from the drug empire (who we thought died in an explosion), is the real father. Talk about a crazy twist!
Will Charmaine get more involved in Melissa Montgomery’s criminal empire? That could be an interesting direction for her already morally questionable character.
The other key plot point of Season 5 is that Mel has reunited with her long-lost father, Everett Reid, who has something important to tell her. We don’t know what that will be yet.
Lizzie also revealed to Denny that she was pregnant, so that will likely be one of the key storylines of the upcoming season.
This of course means Doc and Hope will become grandparents – Hope actress Annette O’Toole spoke to Tudum about this: “I think at first, Hope wasn’t happy. I think she was like, ‘Wait a minute, you’re 19. You’re finding your way, and it’s going to be really hard. It’s going to change your life in ways you have no idea about.'”
“But I think in the four months since Hope found out the truth, she’s realized that anything is possible. And just because she didn’t do it and it wasn’t right for her doesn’t mean it’s not right for Lizzie.”
Jack’s best friend Preacher also had a new romance last season with firefighter Kaia. However, their relationship could be put to the test when she discovered the body of Wes, Paige’s ex-attacker who she ended up killing. Preacher hid the body, and the action continued to haunt him throughout the series.
Other storylines include Cameron and Muriel’s new relationship, Brie leaving Brady for Mike, and Ava taking over Lily’s farm.

Will there be a season 7 of Virgin River?
Netflix has yet to renew Virgin River for season 7. However, this Reddit post suggests that filming for a new season could be in the works – but that’s just speculation.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see Virgin River return for another round, as season 6 hasn’t been confirmed to be the last.
