Yesterday, at Google’s unveiling event, the company unveiled the new Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Buds Pro, and the new Pixel Watch 3. If we focus on the smartwatch, the next-gen It is available in two different sizes and with double brightness than the previous version, so it will be more comfortable to use in daylight.
The Pixel Watch 3 arrives with Wear OS 5, the new version of the operating system for smartwatches that the company presented at Google I/O 2024. One of the most anticipated novelties has been the arrival of the app drawer, which allows us to access our applications from a new user interface.
The new grid-based launcher displays many more apps on the screen
If you are a Wear OS user, you will be used to checking the apps on your smartwatch in the apps drop-down list, where we can see both the app icon and its name. One of the changes in Wear OS 5 is the arrival of a new grid-based app switchersomething that is already found in Samsung’s Galaxy Watch (as we can see in the main image of this article).
Even though the list of applications we were used to works perfectly, the arrival of the grid view This will save us time when searching for candidatesThe reason is that it is not necessary to scroll as much until we find the one we are looking for: Google opts for a three-column grid, so that we can see many more applications on the screen.
Of course, it’s important to note that the new app switcher doesn’t replace the traditional app list: Users will be able to choose the selector they prefer. Personally, I find the grid view more interesting, since you can see more apps on the screen at a glance.
The only drawback of this selector is the fact that the name of the applications is not displayed, so we must know well the applications that we have installed on the watch and recognize them at first glance thanks to their icon. Otherwise, it is better to opt for the usual list, where the name of the application is indicated.
At this point, it’s interesting to note that Google is already testing Wear OS 5.1, an update that would come with a significant change. At the launch of Wear OS 5, the company confirmed that the system was based on Android 14, but everything indicates that version 5.1 will be based on Android 15, Google’s next big update.
