The Outer Worlds 2 was announced in 2021, and we’ve heard very little about the game since then. But now there’s at least a sign of life, so the project is still ongoing.
Since The Outer Worlds 2 was announced three years ago, the role-playing game has been attracting attention mainly by its absence. But that’s not surprising, since Obsidian Entertainment had enough other projects to work on with the PlayStation release of Grounded and the role-playing game Avowed, which was just postponed to February. So many that the question arose whether the project hadn’t been on hold for a long time.
Now there is no new information, but at least a sign of life that confirms that work on The Outer Worlds 2 is still ongoing. Obsidian boss Feargus Urquhart has spoken to Limit Break Network and revealed a few secrets.
Urquhart said there: “I’m impressed with the team… We’ve been very lucky. We’ve got a lot of people who understand the game, who worked on the first game and who have been working for us for a very long time. So I’m really impressed.”
The studio had a tough time during COVID and the acquisition by Microsoft and had so much to do that there was even talk of stopping work on The Outer Worlds 2 and simply putting the whole team on Avowed.
“I’m grateful to Microsoft, the teams and everyone else for saying, ‘No, we’re going to do it. We’re going to do it with all these games. Are they going to meet the schedule we originally had in mind? No, but we’re going to do it,'” said Urquhart. Grounded and Pentiment turned out well, Avowed looks “great” and The Outer Worlds 2 is “incredible.”
Well, as a studio boss he can hardly say anything else, but at least it’s a good sign that development seems to be moving forward somehow and doesn’t seem to be descending into complete chaos.
