Channing Tatum still very much wants Strategy movie, and he’s willing to do (seriously) anything to make it happen.
Spoilers for Deadpool and Wolverine ahead.
For years, Magic Mike and 22 Jump Street actor Channing Tatum has been desperately trying to get a Gambit movie. After all, he’s a fan-favorite X-Men character, and Tatum is a huge fan of the gambler, but it’s never happened. Until recently, at least. While he hasn’t appeared in a solo role yet, he has a pretty big role in the latest MCU entry, Deadpool vs. Wolverine, as Gambit himself. He stars in the film alongside some other familiar faces, like Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Wesley Snipes as Blade, but this is the first time they’ve returned to their respective roles in years, and Tatum’s first time playing the character.
As it turns out, Tatum recently shared his struggles with getting a standalone Gambit movie made during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “We were about to make the movie, and then Fox got bought by Disney,” Tatum said, explaining that the Gambit movie was almost made before the acquisition. He then went on to share that MCU boss Kevin Feige is a huge fan of Gambit, but isn’t sure how to fit him into the cinematic universe just yet. “He literally said, ‘I love Gambit. I don’t know how to do it right now. I don’t know how to do it.'” [Gambit] fits in with what we’re doing. So it’s going to take me a little while to figure it out.”

There’s no evidence that a Gambit movie is happening, and Feige may want to get an X-Men movie done before that happens, but Tatum did say “Now we’ve kind of cracked the code a little bit. Hopefully. I’ll kill kittens… I’ll do a lot of horrible things to get Gambit moving.” Obviously, don’t mess with Tatum when it comes to Gambit.
Deadpool vs. Wolverine is doing really well, having grossed over $1 billion worldwide this weekend, and considering the MCU’s recent failures, I’m sure Feige and other executives must be very happy about that.
