By a message on social networksthe team behind the development of HAAK, has confirmed that they will not release the Xbox version of their metroidvania. The team explained that they were ready to bring the game to our console, but ultimately, problems with Microsoft certifications, as well as other errors, complicated a process that should be simple, became a nightmare for this independent studio.
With a broad message, the team explained the problems they faced in being able to register their game with the idea of launching it. Everything that happened to them ultimately made them give up trying, which is why they decided not to release the game on Xbox, apologizing to all the players on the platform who were waiting for him.
HAAK is not coming to Xbox
Thank you so much for your help and attention. However, during the process of getting our game on Xbox, we faced many obstacles. What seemed like a simple procedure turned into a nightmare due to numerous errors in the Microsoft Partner Center that prevented us from successfully completing the account registration. Even Microsoft’s support system was buggy, making it impossible to investigate our issues. This is simply unbelievable for developers. We informed ID@box about our situation, but they were unable to help us as it apparently falls outside their scope of responsibility and seems to be a Microsoft issue.
In reality, porting the Xbox version of our game would have taken less than two weeks, but we spent over 14 months trying to “request game publication” and “complete Microsoft Partner Identity registration.” This has been a terrible experience because you can feel the excitement of the Xbox community, but we are struggling to resolve the issues that have been encountered. While we are eager to share HAAK’s adventure with more players, our development funds are extremely limited and we cannot afford to wait any longer.
As a result, we have ultimately decided to abandon the launch of the Xbox platform. We deeply regret this outcome, but we really did our best. To be honest, this is the first time since we started developing games that we have felt such enthusiastic support from players. It convinced us that the Xbox community must be truly amazing.
As you can read in the quote above, the development team has been having a lot of issues registering and accessing the system to launch their game. This has happened several times in the past, this is not the first studio to talk about similar things and we hope that this will stop happening and that Microsoft will solve these obstacles that affect these small studios when launching their games on Xbox.
