Ubisoft is known for introducing new franchises and expanding its existing IPs. And one of the projects the company is working on is “Iridium,” which could be one of its next big bets. The game seems falling into the science fiction genre with post-apocalyptic elementsand could introduce an extraterrestrial presence.
The protagonist, Whittaker, is a man with a troubled past who is forced to trade his humanity for a mechanical shell to survive in this hostile world. Alongside him are other characters such as Octavia, an employee of the Event Containment Area Authority who is forced to take responsibility for her family from a young age.
What we know about the history of the Iridium project
The story of “Iridium” takes place in a city called Highpoint, once considered the pinnacle of human civilization. However, after a terrible war, the city was left in ruins and is now controlled by hostile forces. Radiation prevents organic humans from operating in the area, so human minds are copied into mechanical boxes to explore this hostile landscape.
The search for actors for the “Iridium” project began in March last year and focused on finding an actress to play Octavia. The character description reveals that she is a rebellious young woman who grew up in the Event Containment Zone and has no memories of the old Highpoint. Her father, a respected scientist, was forced to aid his own nation’s enemy, and Octavia is forced to take responsibility for her family from a young age.
It is still unclear whether the project is still relevant or not.
While details about the “Iridium” project remain scarce, it is safe to assume that it has made significant progress in its development process. The search for supporting actors and the creation of a detailed synopsis suggest that the game is in an advanced stage of production. However, it is also possible that the game will be canceled, as has happened with other Ubisoft projects in the past.
As for which division of Ubisoft could be working on this project, there are several options. Ubisoft Leamington and Ubisoft Stockholm are working on new unannounced IPs, and one of them could be “Iridium.” Cloud-based technology called Ubisoft Scalarcould be used in this project to create larger and more ambitious game worlds.
