At the I/O conference earlier this year, Google announced that it was developing an anti-theft lock for Android phones, and now it appears that the company has finally started testing the feature in the wild, reports journalist Mishaal Rahman.
The anti-theft lock uses the phone’s built-in accelerometer and gyroscope to detect if someone has snatched the phone out of your hands, and if it detects any movements associated with theft, it simply locks the phone.
Google is currently rolling out the feature to a small group of beta testers in Brazil, as cell phone theft is apparently a particularly common problem in the country.
Once testing is complete, the feature will be rolled out to all mobiles running Android 10 or newer.
