Boom. Hideo Kojima is back. Well, back to tweeting out the trailer for Death Stranding 2, which features an image of a faceless actor with a question written on it, begging people to ask. Like who? Like how? What now?

Yes, at 9am on the Monday morning of the video game convention (Gamescom, you may have heard of it), the developers released a teaser image that may or may not have hinted at what the show is about. One thing is for sure, fans are pretty sure they have guessed which actor’s face is in the trailer.

Below you can find Hideo Kojima’s latest trailer, which, as far as I can tell, is the first of its kind from the director in recent memory. The marketing for Death Stranding 2 has been littered with trailers like this, the most memorable of which was the one Kojima Productions released to introduce Elle Fanning to the game, in this same “deadpan silhouette with a question mark here” style.

That being said, in this case, it seemed to take people about ten minutes to figure it out. No, it wasn’t Mads Mikkelsen, he’s not in the game. They thought Kojima was referring to Kenjiro Tsuda, of Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia fame. Tsuda, of course, also provided the Japanese voice for Norman Reedus’ character Sam Porter Bridges.

Naturally, fans on Reddit think this trailer could be a hint that Tsuda will be doing full performance capture for his own character in DS2, rather than just providing voices for characters that someone else has done all of the motion capture and modeling for, so we’ll have to see if that happens.

Inevitably, given the timing of the release, this trailer has also sparked some fan speculation that Hideo Kojima may appear at Gamescom this week to share something related to DS2. Considering the game last appeared at State of Play in January and PlayStation won’t be attending the show this year, I wouldn’t get my hopes up, but you never know. A few years ago, Hideo Kojima made an appearance at ONL just to tell Geoff Keighley that he had a podcast, Brain Structure, coming out, which got us hooked.
