WhatsApp is an application used by more than 2 billion people worldwide to communicate, whether with friends, family, work colleagues and even with businesses and companies. Therefore, unfortunately scams and attempted fraud They have become a serious problem for users of the platform.
However, WhatsApp is constantly working on adding additional security and privacy features to protect users. The platform’s latest idea is one that could save us a lot of trouble: block messages from unknown numbers default.
Goodbye to messages from strangers on WhatsApp (if you prefer)
There are scams of all kinds on WhatsApp. One of the most common is Whatsapping, and messages from unknown numbers from other countries have also become a common problem for users of the platform.
Now, it could be much easier to avoid falling victim to scams or fraud on WhatsApp, thanks to a new feature that allows you to block messages arriving from strangers. This new feature was discovered in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android by WABetaInfo, revealing that it will be available among the advanced privacy optionssame section where you can currently configure IP address blocking for calls and video calls.
Until now, it was possible to block only calls from unknown numbers on WhatsApp, but the instant messaging platform, owned by Meta, will now also allow blocking messages.
Of course, this feature will not block all messages from unknown numbers, its description states that will block messages from strangers that exceed a limit. In other words, once this feature is enabled, WhatsApp will block messages from those who send mass messages. This is important because in this way, the application will not filter messages from new contacts that we expect to receive, the typical case of “I am writing to you on WhatsApp so that you can save my contact.”
Blocking messages from strangers is currently under development by WhatsApp, but the feature is expected to reach all Android device users in an upcoming update.
