Diablo 4’s first big post-Season 5 patch is arriving tomorrow, August 20. Assuming you’re not too busy following all the action from the Gamescom Opening Night Live, this is the patch that will actually tempt you to play.
Update 1.5.1 focuses on the Armies of Hell, the new end-game event and the main feature of this season. It also includes some quality of life changes that I honestly thought were already in the game because they are so basic.

Before discussing the changes to the Hellfire Horde, it’s worth highlighting the small but impactful changes that patch 1.5.1 makes to the UI and UX. First, party leaders can now promote another member to that position – I can’t believe this isn’t something you can do yet.
When creating a new character, it currently places them at the very bottom, but the patch will change the order so that they appear at the very top. Players who enjoy bargain hunting will be happy to know that the trade chat will immediately become more useful as it will be separated by world tier. The game will also now alert players when a new patch is available.
Best of all, new visual effects have been added to make it easier to see which Corpse Bow is shooting you. As a result, the trajectory of the projectile is now more obvious.
In Hellfire’s Armies, perhaps the most impactful adjustment is that loot boxes can be reused an unlimited number of times. Some Hellfire offerings have also become more valuable. The list includes Exalted Elite, Surge Elite, Unstoppable Elite, and Burning Rain. The patch also makes it easier to tell when you’ve picked up a Burning Aether, thanks to updated sound effects.
Speaking of rewards, Blizzard is remedying an issue that occurred in the last patch that prevented players from receiving items with guaranteed higher affixes that they were supposed to receive. As compensation, all players will receive legendary item packs with guaranteed higher affixes.
The patch will also restore the Alchemist Control Tempering affix for Rogues, which was previously disabled due to a bug. However, the updated version has some changes compared to the old version. The Flurry Size affix now belongs to Alchemist Control, and the Trickery Attack Level affix is now gone from Alchemist Control.
Check out the Blizzard blog for the full changelog, which includes a ton of bug fixes.
