Google is synonymous with internet search. The company became a tech giant thanks to its search engine, and for years, all of its products have had something to do with search, whether it’s concepts on the internet, our personal photos, or the next movie we’re going to see. But Google is changing and is now focusing more on AI and Gemini; and the next change coming to your app reflects this very well.
It seems incredible, but Google is experimenting remove search from your official app. This is not a joke and we are not “trolling” either, although it is true that this is a slight exaggeration. Search will remain, but it will no longer have such a prominent role, with its own section in the official app.
The change was discovered by Android Authoritywho analyzed the latest beta version of the Google application pre-installed on the vast majority of Android phones sold in Europe. This application is divided into four sections: “Home”, “Search”, “Saved” and “Notifications”. Google developers are testing the changes made simplify the interfacereducing the number of sections.
For example, one of the sections that could be removed is the notifications section, which many people probably don’t use because it focuses on showing news related to the topics we’ve searched for. But the most controversial change is undoubtedly the removal of the search section.
Indeed, Google, the search company par excellence, can remove the search button from its application. It is something that could pass for one of those nonsense that Google loves so much, but it seems to be a real change that is already appearing in the Google application; although the vast majority of users continue to see the usual configuration of the application.
This doesn’t mean that Google has completely eliminated search from its app. The search bar is still availablebut only in the “Home” tab. Therefore, if we are in the Google application and want to perform a search, we must switch to the home tab and click on the search bar; while in the current version, the search button is always accessible, even if we are in another section of the application.
In practice, this means that we will have to press more to use search Google, but search itself shouldn’t change much. It doesn’t sound like a big deal, but it’s still a significant change.
Of course, it is also possible that Google will ultimately decide not to make this change, which is currently only available in the beta version of the app. This will probably depend on the results of the user tests that the company will be carrying out at the moment.
