If you are waiting for iOS 18 and you have an iPhone compatible with the update, we have great news and that is that you have less and less to update. For now, you have the public betas, which go almost hand in hand with the developer betas. The last one to be launched was the latter, being already the iOS 18 Beta 7 for Developers.
This is an update for all Apple developers who have already installed the profile and is found as another update in the settings. As of now, no big news has been found, but an expert predicts that could be the last beta version before the final launch in September.
At Applesfera, we strongly recommend that you do not install the iOS 18 beta unless you are a certified developer. The public beta has been available since last July. |
iOS 18 beta 7 ‘advances’ final version of update
As we said at the beginning, no relevant news has been found in the seventh beta for developers of iOS 18, which is not at all strange if we take into account that several changes have already been introduced in the six previous betas and that they have also finished reaching the public betas.
This lack of new features is also due to the fact that the next big changes will arrive with iOS 18.1, a version expected in October and which is also in beta for developers. This is precisely where Apple Intelligence will arrive, although for now only in English from the United States.
However, Mark Gurman, who is one of Apple’s leading experts and has sources inside the company, claims that This beta is “the definitive one”. Therefore, it is understood that the following will be what is called “RC”, acronym in English for “Release Candidate”. For you to understand, here are the differences:
- Developer Beta: These are betas intended only for developers to test their apps with the new tools provided by Apple and report errors. Several versions are usually released before reaching the “RC” and the final version.
- Public Beta: These are beta versions intended for the general public who want to try the new features of the next update of the iPhone, being versions that at the beginning are more careful against errors than those of the developers, although in the end they end up being equal in terms of development. It is also ideal from these betas to report errors to Apple.
- ‘RC’ version: These are “release candidate” versions. In other words, they are the same versions as the final versions, even though developers and public beta testers receive them before and do not need to update them when the final version arrives. Of course, there are some exceptions and sometimes we see up to two “RCs” and it may even be that in the end the version released by Apple is different and needs to be updated.
- Final version: This is the final version that is now available to the general public without the need to be a developer or beta tester.
Dates when iOS 18 could arrive for everyone
Based on the above, and if Gurman’s information is correct, all that remains is for Apple to launch the public beta version of the seventh for developers (which will happen this week) and then the RCs for both cases will be launched. And after that, the final launch.
Only Apple knows its own calendar, but it’s not hard to theorize with the dates. And even more so, knowing that will be linked to the new iPhone and the September event. Here’s how things might play out:
- Week of August 26: iPhone 16 event confirmed.
- Week of September 2: iOS 18 RC version.
- Week of September 9: Apple Event celebration and final launch of iOS 18.
As for more precise dates, Everything indicates that the event will take place on Tuesday, September 10th. and it is possible that iOS 18 will be released after its celebration.
NOW, There is a slightly more complicated theory and Apple releases at least two RC versions of iOS 18 for developers and public beta testers. The first, in the week of September 2 and without announcing news of the new iPhone in its code, then another RC after the fact and without fear of leaking its own software. This would imply that the final launch will take place in the week of September 16, which will also be the same week that the new devices are launched on the market.
