Romulus is set in the alien timeline 20 years after the first film in the sci-fi series. At this point, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is wandering around somewhere in space on board her escape capsule. It is only a few decades later that Ripley is awakened from cryogenic sleep to face a Xenomorph queen in Aliens.
A quick overview? The timeline of the Alien films currently looks like this:
- Prometheus – 2093
- Alien: Covenant – 2104
- Alien – 2122
- Alien: Romulus – 2142
- Aliens – 2179
- Alien 3 – 2179
- Alien Resurrection – 2381
Does Ripley also take a nap in Romulus?
In view of this, according to Fede Alvarez, not completely impossible
that Ripley is present in Romulus in some form (via ReelBlend). The director of the latest Alien film personally cannot (or does not want to?) say more about it and prefers to wait for the one fan who looks particularly closely when going to the cinema.
And it may already have been found: The user RidgeTop published in the forum on AvPGalaxy.net an interesting discovery that he came across in Alien: Romulus. In the trailer for the film, you can already see a rescue capsule that looks suspiciously similar to the shuttle Narcissus. Look out for the ship in the bottom right at minute 01:39 in the following video:

The new trailer for Alien: Romulus is here and really not for the faint of heart
RidgeTop now reports that he paid particular attention to it the next time he went to the cinema and that he spotted the Narcissus again. Small spoiler warning: In the scene where Kay (Isabela Merced) is locked in the Xenomorph and begs Andy (David Jonsson) to open the door, the shuttle is said to be seen docked vertically to the Romulus/Remus station.
When it dismantles the research station in the grand finale, Narcissus may be on its way again with a slumbering Ripley on board. Even android Rook (played with the help of CGI by the late Ian Holm) notes that there is a survivor of the Nostromus – Weyland Yutani may simply have decided not to save Ripley.
After Romulus, there are still 30 years left until Ripley is awakened from her cryogenic sleep in Aliens. Since Fede Alvarez is very knowledgeable about the Alien canon, it is definitely not unlikely that he hid the potential Ripley Easter egg in Romulus. After all, it would not be the first time that Ripley has had another adventure between aliens and aliens.
What do you think: Is the shuttle in question actually the Narcissus and a Ripley Easter egg? Or is this being read a little too much into it? How much did you like Alien: Romulus and where would you place Fede Alvarez’s film in your Alien ranking? Let us know in the comments!
