Game News The Game Awards are celebrating their 10th anniversary and we finally know when the next edition will take place!
Geoff Keighley’s famous ceremony now has a new date in its schedule: see you as always at the end of the year.
A historic ceremony
Similar to the Oscars, the video game industry also hosts a grand ceremony where awards are given out in various categories. The most prestigious award is, of course, the Game of the Year award. Previously, it was the Video Game Awards organized by Spike TV where the ultimate award was given to certain major titles: Madden NFL 2004, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Resident Evil 4, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bioshock, Grand Theft Auto IV, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Red Dead Redemption, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Walking Dead and even Grand Theft Auto V.
In 2014, the Game Awards took over, organized by Geoff Keighley, who was already determined to make his mark in the industry (he is now behind Summer Game Fest and gamescom’s Opening Night Live). The evening is not just for the awards ceremony, but also for developers to make announcements and reveals with great fanfare.
On the topic of culture, here are all the Game of the Year awards given over the years:
Happy 10 years
So in 2024, the Game Awards will celebrate their tenth anniversary: will it be a grander, slightly different event? Maybe. “When one decade ends, a new one begins…” Keighley hints at X in a post. Above all, he uses the opportunity to announce the date of the ceremony, which will take place on December 12, 2024 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. From November 1st it will even be possible to buy tickets.
It remains to be seen what the different names of the games will be. This year has already seen the release of impressive titles such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the Black Myth phenomenon: Wukong, Hades II, Helldivers II, Dragon’s Dogma II and Tekken 8. Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Indiana Jones will also be released, as well as the Cercle Ancien, although the latter is scheduled for December (a nomination for this edition of the Game Awards is therefore impossible). Which software are you betting on for the title “Game of the Year”?
