Epic hunts and little nightmares have won over the jury at Gamescom 2024. As planned, the major German video game fair has reached its halfway point amidst conferences, announcements, surprises and talks with the protagonists, and is stopping to take the pulse of its content with its own awards ceremony. Celebrating the best and the highlights in an event that has set the stage for the rest of 2024 and, seeing its winners, makes us excited about what will come next year.
First things first: the Gamescom Awards 2024 They are not comparable to the Game Awards or our own list on iGamesNews with the best of the year, but rather they recognize the best that has happened and been able to be played at the fair itself, so that neither the already released Final Fantasy VII Rebirth nor the shown but not playable Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have been among the nominees although, as you will see, a very special mention has been made to Xbox Games Studios for its amazing display during these days.
From here, the nominations and voting process were established at the beginning of summer and during the celebration of the fair respectively, crowning Monster Hunter Wild as the most awarded title with four main awards and, right behind it, a Little Nightmares 3 that looks better and better despite the fact that it recently left us in 2025. It is worth remembering that some of these awards were given in advance. For example, the award given to Tencent in recognition of its commitment to sustainability and reducing emissions was given during Opening Night Live. As for the HEART OF GAMING award, it was decided to focus on those games whose messages serve to protect and preserve democracy in the real world.
Will the winners and nominees of these awards be renewed between now and their release? In some cases, we will soon find out.
