Guangzhou is an optional Yaoguai boss in Black Myth: Wukong, and the keeper of the game’s best transformation spell ability. Defeating this fearsome wolf with a flaming spear will allow you to transform into Guangzhi for short periods of time during the battle, granting you a second health bar and a powerful flame attack to boot.
This is a boss worth seeking out, but he is surprisingly hidden and easy to miss when playing through Black Myth Wukong Chapter 1. In this guide, we will tell you the exact location of Guangzhi and how to beat guangzhi so you can start using its skills as quickly as possible.

Where to find Guangzhi
Guangzhi is located in the Wolf Forest, near the ‘Guangzhi Sanctuary’Out of the forest“. It is located in the same location where you will fight the Wandering Wight in Chapter 1, but its battle arena is hidden out of sight. To reach it, cross the raised bamboo bridge, as shown below, which you will find by taking the first left near the shrine:
Continue following the ground path and you’ll soon see a small entrance marked by a large stone Buddha head. This is where you’ll find Guangzhi, and he’ll call out to you as you approach, so make sure you’re ready before you go, as the fight will begin almost immediately.
There are a few things you can do to prepare for the Guangzhi fight. Make sure you’re equipped with the best staff and armor available, have spent all your Sparks skill points, and are well rested. Remember that you can always gain more experience by fighting other Black Myth: Wukong bosses and enemies in the area if you find him a bit difficult on your first try. I defeated Guangzhi after defeating Lingxuzi, for example, and obtaining the Immobilize spell, which gives you a serious advantage in combat.
How to beat Guangzhi
Guangzhi’s Fire-Tipped Spear is a force to be reckoned with and can quickly deal you burning (fire) damage if you take too many hits. Before you head into battle, make sure you have some Refreshing body powder equipped in your item bar, helps you get rid of any potential status debuffs as soon as possible.
Guangzhi will start the fight with some large personnel swirls and leaping attackswho are fairly slow and easy to predict, so they shouldn’t be too hard to dodge and keep out of harm’s way. Be patient and only start attacking at the end of his combo attack, otherwise you risk taking quite a bit of damage by intervening too early.
Guangzhi can also throw his spear very quickly like a boomerang, which you will have to be careful of, because it can also hit you on its way back and cause serious damage. In the same vein, it charges and rushes at you Very, very fast – though the build-up to these attacks is also quite slow and easy to spot in advance, as Guangzhi will stand still and twirl his staff as he coils his body, ready to strike. Dodge to the side when his staff is almost vertical, as the charge will come a split second later.
If you have the Immobilize Make sure to cast it when Guangzhi is low to the ground. If you hit him while he’s jumping in the air, you won’t be able to hit him and it’ll be a waste of your mana. It’s fairly easy to stop him during one of his flaming spear whirls, though, so take advantage of this opportunity to get a few extra hits in and use up your focus points.
Guangzhi is quite easily stunned and interrupted when you hit him with a powerful attackwhich allows you to land more hits on him with a barrage of light attacks. If you time it right, you can keep hitting him this way quite often and really increase the damage.
When Guangzhi’s health reaches around 50%, he begins to up the ante with more fear some attacks. He begins leaping into the air for flaming aerial swoops, as well as faster, flaming cartwheels with his staff and aerial body slams.
Again, they’re not too hard to dodge due to their long setup time, so wait for the right moment to land more hits. Keep doing this and you’ll whittle down Guangzhi’s health enough to claim your victory.
Guangzhi Awards
As Guangzhi lies on the ground, his spear will fall from the sky and stand upright in the ground, ready to be retrieved. Claim his staff and you will be rewarded with the Red tides spell, which allows you to transform into Guangzhi and unleash his Scorch Bane attack on enemies.
This is a brilliant reward, as Guangzhi’s transformation attacks are not only powerful in their own right, but you can also deal burn damage to your enemies, causing them to burst into flames for extra damage if you fill their burn damage gauges. Transforming into Guangzhi will also grant you a separate health bar, giving you an extra boost in combat and an extra lifeline should you need it.
You will also receive the following items and experience:
- 700 XP
- 513 Will
- 1x Stone Spirit
Congratulations on beating Guangzhi! Now it’s time to move on to some of the other tough bosses in Chapter 1, the White-Clad Noble and the Black Wind King.
