Concord: Hero shooter flops even more than expected at launch

Concord, Expected, FLOPS, Hero, launch, Shooter

Even before the release, there were increasing signs that Concord might have a hard time. But the hero shooter flopped even more than expected at launch.

Despite criticism and very poor participation numbers in the public beta test phase, the hero shooter Concord has recently become officially available. However, Sony’s remaining hopes that the title could still be a success have now been dashed. Quite the opposite: the launch has now resulted in an even bigger flop than anyone could have imagined.

As a rule, new games achieve their best player numbers right at launch or immediately afterward – apart from long-running hits that manage to captivate more and more gamers over time. But Concord’s launch was a complete disaster in this regard.

Since the release on August 23rd, the peak number of simultaneous gamers has been just 697, which is less than 700. Concord has not even managed to break the 1,000 mark of gamers playing the title simultaneously – a more than worrying figure for a brand new online PvP title.

The modest numbers during the open beta already suggested that things could get pretty bitter for Concord. Now that there is a considerable price to pay for the full version, even fewer players are getting into the title.

The chances that both Sony and Firewalke Studios will be happy with the player numbers are pretty slim. That is at least unless, contrary to expectations, the PS5 version is more successful; unlike Steam, no player numbers are published on the Sony console.
