Black Myth: Wukong has already broken an insane record in the first three days after its release. The title is the next unexpected success story this year after Palworld and Helldivers 2.
Black Myth: Wukong, which was initially released for PC and PlayStation 5, has taken the video game world by storm. The title recorded sensational player numbers on Steam, among other platforms, right from launch – and this is now reflected in the first officially confirmed sales figures.
According to this, Game Science’s Soulslike title has managed to break an insane record within just three days of its original release. The action game is already one of the best-selling games of the current year 2024.
The development studio announced via X (formerly Twitter) that within three days of the release on August 20th, more than ten million copies had already been sold across both platforms – an incredible number in such a short period of time.
At its peak, the title was played by more than 3 million gamers simultaneously on PC and PlayStation 5; on Steam alone, the mark of more than 2 million gamers was exceeded. Black Myth: Wukong is now in second place on Steam in this category, as only PUBG: Battlegrounds had more players playing simultaneously in earlier days.
The hype surrounding the title has also led to PS5 consoles being sold noticeably more frequently in China and there is a temporary shortage of new consoles there – probably much to Sony’s delight.
Xbox players are still annoyed that the title is not yet available for the Xbox Series X/S. Microsoft’s business policy is said to be to blame for this – similar to Baldur’s Gate III before it. The action game is apparently struggling with the less powerful Xbox Series S. You can find more details on this in our previous news report on why Black Myth: Wukong is not yet available for Xbox.
