It is very likely that at present you have many applications installed on your phone, especially if you have bought a new ph one like the Pixel 9 and you want to know how they are doing. The big problem with having so many applications installed is that they need to be updated, and in this sense, the Play Store is lagging behind other app stores.
Originally, the Play Store allowed us to download all the updates of all the applications we had installed on our mobile at the same time. However, at a time when 5G and WiFi 6 did not yet exist, this resulted in very slow downloads that took up all the bandwidth.
Google’s solution was to allow only one download at a time. This way, all the bandwidth could be dedicated to downloading an application and updating it so that the user can start using it as quickly as possible. If we are waiting for an update with an important new feature, this way of working makes sense and results in a shorter waiting time.
However, this mode of operation no longer makes much sense today, with the arrival of new, faster connections and more powerful processors. After many requests, Google has decided to allow the simultaneous download of updates from the Play Store again. In EL ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre, we were able to verify that new updates are already downloaded at the same time
The effect is incredible and very noticeable. In a test carried out on a Pixel 8 Pro, 14 applications were updated in just over a minute, thanks to the fact that the Play Store did not have to wait for each application to be downloaded and updated; Multiple applications were downloaded and installed at the same time
In fact, it all happened so fast that it’s unclear exactly how many apps can be updated at once. Some users claim that three updates can be downloaded at once, but only downloads count; that is, three apps can be downloaded while the previous three are being installed.
This is probably one of the best changes we’ve seen on the Play Store in recent years. Added to this is the ability to install multiple apps at the same time, already enabled a few months ago; Until now, updates continued to be downloaded one by one.
