Squirrel with a gunthe game about squirrels with guns, launched on PC today (August 29), and its developers decided to commemorate that by allowing its Steam page to be live-streamed or played with real squirrels all day. As of wrioting, it’s still going, and it’s pretty cool.

If you’re not already aware, Squirrels with Guns has gone from being a game that was only used to make for funny Twitter videos a few years ago to being a real game now available on PC and consoles that does exactly what you’d expect while also including some platform features you might not have expected.

To celebrate the game’s launch on Steam and the Epic Store, its developers decided to host a livestream party for some real squirrels, with the help of YouTube channel Backyard Buddies, which basically looks like it’s doing a whole Springwatch event to let you watch the animals go about their lives. Yes, call your aunts and uncles who own 15 million bird feeders and keep hedgehogs, the game is now serving them.

We’ve embedded the broadcast below so you can hopefully take a look at it for yourself, but there are some areas set up for squirrels with little plastic guns because it’s a video game. The one I’m looking at right now has a toy car with an assault rifle on it, next to a food bowl, and the stream runs back and forth between the food bowl and a larger garden area, which has multiple food stations – one of which is placed next to a revolver – and a giant sniper rifle.

Overall, the squirrels seemed pretty upset by the presence of the muskets, and they were just doing normal squirrel behavior, which was pretty nice. For example, I just saw one squirrel sniff another squirrel’s tail where it meets its butt. The other squirrel didn’t seem too happy because it ran off. Ah, nature.

As far as I know, Steam Dev Broadcasts of this nature aren’t saved anywhere after they’re over so you can watch them back, so hopefully at least the highlights are uploaded somewhere for posterity.
