Remedy has done something big. The studio just announced a partnership with Annapurna Interactive — you know, the guys who published that cat game and a bunch of other high-profile indie games — to help fund Control 2. As part of the deal, Annapurna will gain the rights to bring Alan Wake and Control to TV and movie screens.
As announced in a press release that includes at least one joke about Finns having no emotions, Remedy is doing this to ensure that Control 2 is the fully-featured game its developers wanted to deliver.

In less-than-funny business terms, the arrangement goes something like this: Annapurna becomes a “co-production and co-financing partner” on Control 2, funding 50 percent of the game’s development, while also acquiring some licensing rights that allow it to take the Control and Alan Wake series “into film, television, and beyond.”
Remedy will continue to focus on the games it’s already working on, but will receive some additional financial support and retain the intellectual property rights to Control and Alan Wake.
“Annapurna’s creative values align perfectly with our own, making them an inspiring partner in our journey ahead,” said Remedy Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen and Control Executive Producer Juha Vainio in a joint statement. “Remedy has been working on Control 2 for some time, the game looks fantastic, and we feel Annapurna is the perfect partner for us as development of the game moves towards production and finally across the finish line.”
Remedy’s Sam Lake added: “I’m incredibly excited (yeah!) for the opportunity to expand the story of Alan Wake and the entire Remedy Connected Universe into mediums beyond games, and to build it all into a unified vision by working closely with games, film, TV and other mediums.”
Meanwhile, new Annapurna president of interactive and new media Hector Sanchez said of the deal: “We know from experience that Remedy is a best-in-class game development partner, and we are excited to share their work with a wider audience by bringing the worlds of Control and Alan Wake to film, television and beyond.”
So here are Remedy’s new deals with all the usual companies, and in addition to Control 2, it’s still developing a Control multiplayer game codenamed Condor and remasters of the first two Max Payne games.
