Emulation-based handhelds seem to be all the rage right now, and GoRetroid has revealed what might be one of the most interesting yet.
There are no details yet, but the Retroid Pocket 5 has been revealed and it comes with a stunning 5.5-inch AMOLED display capable of displaying resolutions up to 1080p. This is a significant upgrade over the Retroid Pocket 4, which opted for a 4.7-inch IPS screen.
Not only that, but a new announcement today reveals that the Pocket 5 will come in four different colors, one of which will be inspired by Nintendo’s GameCube. This makes perfect sense as the Pocket 5 will likely be more than capable of emulating the GameCube and PS2. We also have what looks like a SNES-inspired design with four buttons on the front, because of course.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details on the price and specs of this thing in the coming days, but as far as aesthetics go, it looks really good. At the time of writing, GoRetroid stated that all will be revealed “next week”.
The inclusion of an AMOLED display also puts some pressure on Nintendo – at least in our minds. With emulation devices taking advantage of mind-blowing technology like this, you’d hope the Switch’s upcoming successor would also follow suit. Alas, this is Nintendo we’re talking about, so who knows?
