Thanks to a new partnership, TV and film adaptations of Remedy’s Alan Wake and Control are becoming increasingly likely.

Remedy Entertainment has officially announced the conclusion of a new strategic partnership with Annapurna Pictures. The main focus is on financing the development of the supernatural action sequel Control 2, as Annapurna will contribute 50 percent of the budget under the agreement.

However, that’s not all, because Annapurna is also acquiring the rights for live-action adaptations of the major Remedy brands Control and Alan Wake. This means that TV and/or film adaptations of these two game series are potentially getting closer.

Both franchises are fundamentally well suited to such live-action approaches on TV or the big screen. Above all, Alan Wake 2, released in 2023, already has plenty of live-action sequences in the game itself.

Megan Ellison, CEO of Annapurna, commented on the deal: “The future of storytelling requires seamless integration of gaming, film and TV and this partnership allows us to explore new ways to bring stories to life. By leveraging Remedy’s innovative storytelling and immersive worlds, we can push the boundaries of how stories are told and experienced across different media.”

Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala, meanwhile, speaks of an “important milestone and an exciting opportunity” for the company in relation to the strategic partnership. With outstanding films such as “Zero Dark Thirty”, Annapurna also has great expertise in this area – and at the same time Control 2 can become the “best possible game”. At the same time, the deal also ensures that the title can be published by the company itself and does not require an external publisher; Remedy’s creative freedom is thus guaranteed.
