Silent Hill 2 has been a bit tricky to play lately, but a fan-made enhanced version of the PC version is finally complete.

While you’ve already been able to play the Enhanced Edition of Silent Hill 2 (which, let’s be honest, is a semi-remastered version of the game’s awful PC port), earlier this week the team behind the game released its 10th and final update, which somehow brings even more quality-of-life improvements to an already impressive overhaul. The entire goal of the project was to add things like HD resolution, upscaled graphics, widescreen camera fixes, and restore effects that were missing from the PC port, and it has done all that and more.

Now, its final update has been released, which includes “enhanced environmental assets, restored flashlight reflections, improved water visuals, true 60 fps FMV, tons of general gameplay improvements, and more.” In fact, you can watch a full video about all the improvements in this 70-minute-long video. Some improvements look better than others, but overall, this is a very strong piece of work that makes a classic game run well on PC, which is the only modern platform you can play it on.

Of course, both Konami and Bloober Team want to make the Silent Hill 2 remake the definitive game, but I personally don’t see why the former can’t take a similar approach to Metal Gear Solid, where we get both a remake of Silent Hill 3 and a remake of the original game. Hey, I’m not Konami, and it’s clear that Konami has some sort of plan for the future of this series.

If you wanted to wait until Silent Hill 2 Remastered to play the game, then you won’t have to wait too long, as it’s currently scheduled to be released on October 8, which is just a few weeks away – and according to a preview from our own Kelsey, it’s actually a lot better than it looks.
