PlayStation Plus subscribers got a very nasty surprise this weekend and it didn’t work out at all. But it seems there’s a reason for all of this.
Since the redesign of PlayStation Plus, which is now divided into three different plans, it is possible to play several dozen games neatly stored in catalogs available to subscribers of the Extra and Premium service. Users now know that the list of available games changes from month to month. Sony regularly adds and removes games to ensure a constant flow of new releases. In general, when there are movements, players are automatically notified. But lately it seems that Sony has been making changes without warning.
Deleting a game on PlayStation Plus without warning is not a good idea
A few hours ago, a player (closely followed by others) wanted to restart one of his games even though it was available in the PlayStation Plus catalog and discovered, to his great surprise, that it was simply removed without warning. This game is The Evil Within, the survival horror from Bethesda. According to reports, the title was removed from the list of PlayStation Plus games around August 30 without warning. Sony did not actually warn anyone, the game is not among those that should leave the catalog in August 2024.
A very unpleasant surprise for some subscribers who had just started a new game. Some were also quick to react and criticize Sony for not “Lack of transparency in a far too expensive payment service”, “What the hell again?” Too bad », “Great, I’ve only just started…”There are numerous reactions on social media, but while some players are upset, others put things into perspective.
Has the game been completely delisted on PS5?
For now, nothing has been communicated about this turn of events, with Sony and Bethesda remaining silent this weekend. In addition, some players, whether they are subscribed to PlayStation Plus or not, claim that they can no longer even find the game on their PS5, as the latter would obviously be removed from the list (note that on PS4 there is no this problem). At the time of writing, we have checked ourselves and, in fact, The Evil Within at the moment shows that this could soon change.
On the other hand, a new mention was added to the game page to indicate that The Evil Within had compatibility issues on PS5. That would explain why it would have been removed from the PlayStation Plus games catalog. We can read: “When playing this game on a PS5, you may encounter errors, it may not behave as expected, or some of the features available on a PS4 may not be accessible.” To play this game on a PS5, you may need to update your system to the latest version of the system software. »
Still having compatibility issues?
A similar message to the one on the GTA-like Sleeping Dogs page, which also has major compatibility issues with the PS5. It is true that The Evil Within had serious problems on the PS5, which many players reported. Lags, crashes, crazy framerate… the game is not a technical monster anyway, but as a bonus, it did not really help the journey. It could therefore be that the decision to remove the game from the PlayStation Plus service is not trivial. We must therefore rather focus on The Evil Within 2, which has no problems and is still available.
