Google’s AI is Geminiand in just six months it has conquered our Android phones. In fact, it has recently updated it with many new features, becoming the main axis of the operating system. This union is more latent in devices like the new Pixel 9, and now the search engine company intends to take it behind the wheel.
Among the capabilities of Gemini, only one function has been seen in Android Auto: the summary of messages, which, although very useful, is not the only way in which AI can improve the infotainment system of our car. A few months ago we said that “Gemini is the best thing that can happen to Android Auto”, It won’t take long to verify this..
Gemini Live and Android Auto
For a few months now, Gemini has managed to replace the traditional Google Assistant on our Android mobile. In addition to a chatbot, with which to interact via SMS, it has acquired communication skills. voice recognition to try (initially) to take over from Google Assistant.
However, Gemini’s journey as an assistant has not been rosy: lack of basic functions that she had an assistant who had left her in a bad situation. Over time and through new expansions, it was completed as if it were a puzzle in progress.
The definitive leap seems to have been made with the introduction of the new Google phones, in which we tested their new conversational mode called Gemini Live. It responds efficiently and quickly, yes, for now only in English, which is a big improvement in its assistant aspect.
Now, as we read in Android Authority, Gemini could soon accompany the screen of our car, that is, Android Auto. The teardown of the latest version of Android Auto predicts it: there are several clues that point to the Gemini Inclusion.
First of all, the most obvious is the addition of the Gemini icon, synonymous with AI. That it appears in Android Auto only advances the arrival of the assistant, but it is not the only thing. According to the media, the icon would have a monochromatic appearance, since the color gradient is present in an XML file.
References to “kitten”which might look like the name of the Gemini integration in Android Auto. This name is appended to Gemini in some code strings, as seen below:
Start the conversation
As if that were not enough, a quote “Live” appears and the text “Start a conversation” (translated from English), aspects that go in the direction of the inclusion of the assistant. Likewise, to further corroborate this, a function called “GeminiLiveAssistantAction” has been detected in the official Android Auto application.
There is no doubt that Google wants to integrate Gemini Live into Android Auto. As a reminder, for now, is limited to Gemini Advanced users (the most advanced payment model requires a Google One AI Premium subscription) and Shakespeare language. Other than that, it doesn’t require any special hardware, it works on any Android.
We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Gemini Live on Android Auto, which will give more intelligence to the assistant behind the wheel. Without knowing when it will happen, everything indicates that Google is working on it and that it would be very advanced. Maybe in a few weeks we will know more about the renewed Google Assistant.
