After Borderlands 4 was officially announced at the Opening Night Live at gamescom, there is already more news about the upcoming loot shooter. While the first teaser trailer gave little information about the game world, that is now changing. Gearbox showed four interesting artworks at their PAX presentation that provide new insights into the game.
More technology, but no high-tech
The four images are intended to illustrate the concept and direction of Borderlands 4 without giving too much away. The images show different locations from the game. What they are called and what role they might play is not yet known. It is even possible that they will be changed significantly or removed from the game completely.
Also note that these are drawings, not screenshots. The game will probably look completely different, following the cel-shaded look of its predecessors.
Even though the images seem very futuristic at first glance, it has already been confirmed that you will also come across the post-apocalyptic regions that fans have come to love from the first three parts.
There are stylistic innovations: In this case, it means that technology will play a big role, but you shouldn’t expect or fear high-tech. On top of that, the technology is sometimes used differently than originally intended. Just a typical post-apocalyptic world. So Borderlands dares to change things up, but probably doesn’t stray too far from its roots.
As has also been confirmed, you will visit a new planet. Whether there will be several like in Borderlands 3 remains to be seen. Borderlands 4 is scheduled to be released in 2025 for PC, Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5.
