The layoffs appear to be showing no signs of ending, with Rocksteady, the developer of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, reportedly being hit by layoffs.
According to Eurogamer, Rocksteady’s QA department has lost half its staff in the past month, from 33 to 15 people. You won’t be surprised to hear this news, as it’s due to the poor sales of The Suicide Squad, which Eurogamer says is a direct result of the studio’s “restructuring.” QA isn’t the only department to suffer layoffs, though it’s unclear which teams have been affected. Supposedly, an employee went public on social media last weekend saying they were made redundant and learned of the news while on parental leave.

Rocksteady employees who spoke to Eurogamer on condition of anonymity said that with so many employees lost in the QA department, including some team members with specialized knowledge, the workload for those who remain is greater. Some of the employees affected by the layoffs appear to have been with Rocksteady for more than five years. Employees also said that senior management has acknowledged that product quality will suffer after the layoffs. Rocksteady has yet to make an official statement.
Earlier this year, a Bloomberg report explored the problems that arose during the development of Suicide Squad and claimed that Warner Bros. Games was looking to collaborate more with its studio, meaning layoffs would not make sense, although that view seems to have changed now.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was released earlier this year as a real-time cooperative game from a studio better known for its single-player games. The game received mixed reviews from critics and fans, and despite occasional updates, it failed to attract much of an audience, ultimately costing Warner Bros. $200 million in revenue.
