Those hoping to see Ahsoka Season 2 anytime soon may want to give up those hopes a bit.

It used to be that you could usually get one season of your favorite TV show per year. But over time, streaming services have shortened the length of a typical season from 20-plus episodes to 8-10 and made them more like mini-movies without any of the benefits that come with it, forcing you to wait longer and longer for a new season. It’s annoying, and the latest show to be affected by this seems to be the Disney Plus Star Wars series Ahsoka. Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who played Sabine Wren in the first season, recently appeared at Dragon Con and said that she might not be at the convention next year because she will be filming Ahsoka Season 2 by then.

That doesn’t sound like bad news, because, wow, more Star Wars, right? But in reality, it means production won’t begin until the summer of 2025, which means the show almost certainly won’t be released until 2026. For those who don’t know, the first season of the show aired last August, so if season 2 doesn’t air until 2026, that would mean there would be about a three-year gap between seasons.

I can only imagine that the thinking behind this is that there are other Star Wars projects that will fill the gap, like Skeleton Crew, which is out this December, and Andor Season 2, which is set to arrive sometime in 2025, but so far, those are the only TV projects with some kind of release date. Sigourney Weaver’s recently signed The Mandalorian & Grogu is also set to arrive in 2026, but Season 3 of that show also came out last year, so those are big gaps. But hey, who knows better than a massive conglomerate like Disney, right?
