PlayStation’s massive hero shooter Concord is being discontinued, but there’s still a short time left to take part in its farewell tour. If you were hoping to get into the competitive modes, though, you might not get what you want, thanks to XP farmers who throw themselves into the sea just to get their hands on the loot.
In case you missed it, Sony and Firewalk Studios announced yesterday that following a rocky launch and a tepid reception last month, the game will be shutting down on September 6. Players who purchased the game on PS5 and PC before sales stopped will receive a full refund.

With the deadline approaching, many players decided that they really wanted to get their hands on Concord’s Platinum trophy before it was taken offline so that its creators could “determine the best path forward.”
The final obstacle they face, in many cases? A trophy called “Experienced Freelancer” that requires you to reach level 100 in Freelancer reputation. You know, the st andard achievement that usually exists to reward people who stick with the game for a long time.
Well, because there’s no long-term progression unless the game comes back later, some people decide they need to rack up XP quickly and kill themselves shortly after a match in the game’s competitive mode.

As you can see in the clip of several tweets I’ve attached, this practice results in matches that last for minutes or seconds as both teams race to see who can eliminate themselves first. The logic seems simple – finish the match as quickly as possible so you can defeat as many opponents as possible in rapid succession and quickly increase your Freegunner reputation, as Rivalry mode seems to offer the most XP points.
However, it looks like this odd grind doesn’t necessarily lead to as quick a climb up the level ladder as you might hope, with Radec (one of the Twitter users who highlighted this) revealing that grinding for around an hour straight only gets them from level 44 to 45.
So if you’ve got a long way to go to earn Living Legend status in the few days remaining, you might want to hurry up. Or, just give up on having a rare platinum trophy to show off on the internet.
