Developer Undead Labs has confirmed that it will soon discontinue support for the survival game State of Decay 2 – and there is a specific reason for this.
State of Decay 2 players must accept that support for the zombie survival game will soon be discontinued. Undead Labs will stop working on the title, originally released in 2018, later this year and there will be no more patches.
There is a specific reason for this: Undead Labs wants to focus entirely on the already confirmed new part, State of Decay 3, as has now been made clear in a statement on the official website. After the final update for the second part, work will therefore end later this year and the remaining developers will support the team that is already working on State of Decay 3.
With the last patch, all content that has been unlocked in some form so far for State of Decay 2 should be generally available. At the same time, the end of support does not mean that the title will be taken offline in general; that is not the case. State of Decay 2 will not go offline after the release of Update 38, there will simply be no more new patches or content.
With regard to State of Decay 3, the development team explains that they want to deliver “the greatest zombie survival sim in the franchise”. This requires the studio’s full focus and all resources.
