All expected innovations at a glance

When will the iPhone 16 be introduced? Tonight at 7 p.m. the annual Apple Keynote begins, where the latest iPhones and Apple Watches will be presented. Who knows, maybe Apple even has one more thing in store for us that hasn’t been rumored yet.

iPhone 16 will probably come with over 16 new features

As in previous years, it is to be expected that these will primarily be hardware improvements, which are unlikely to be revolutionary. As always, the current rumors should be treated with a grain of salt.

Camera improvements on the iPhone 16

• Camera-Design: The standard series will apparently have a vertically aligned camera element on the back. A wide-angle and an ultra-wide-angle camera will also be used.
• Apropos Ultraweitwinkel: The ultra-wide-angle camera of the Pro series should now also reach 48 megapixels (f/2.2) (like the main camera). ProRAW Max recordings should also be supported.
• Main camera: The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumored to have a larger sensor (1/1.14 inch).
• Capture Button: Apparently all four models will get the new capture button for taking photos and videos. As with a conventional camera, a light press sets the autofocus and a longer press takes the picture. The new button below the power button should also react to a “slide”, which triggers a zoom, for example.
• Action Button: The standard series is now also equipped with the Action Button.
• Telecamera: The iPhone 16 Pro will likely get the 5x zoom of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, a feature that was previously reserved for the larger and more expensive model.
• Slow-mo in 4K: Apparently the Pro models support 4K recording at 120 FPS.
• Macro mode: The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could benefit from macro mode this year. Until now, this feature was reserved for the Pro series.
• New image format: The iPhones seem to support the JPEG XL image format.

Display improvements

• brightness: The displays of the iPhones will most likely reach higher brightness values. Exact data remains to be seen.
• Display size: Apple is said to be working on the aspect ratio of the iPhones and installing slightly larger displays.

New processor

• A18-Chip: The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will most likely be equipped with the new A18 Pro processor. The new chip is expected to have performance improvements – as with every new generation. An improved neural engine is also being discussed.
• TO: The new A18 chip is intended to equip iPhones for advanced generative AI functions.
• Standard series: The two standard models will probably receive a weakened version of the new chip.

Battery performance

New technology: There are indications that Apple will equip the two iPhone 16 Pro models with stacked battery technology, which will result in potentially higher capacity and longer lifespan.

Connectivity

• 5G: The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could be equipped with a new Snapdragon X75 modem from Qualcomm, which enables potentially faster and more efficient 5G connectivity, as MacRumors reported.
• WiFi 7: The Pro series will be equipped with the latest WiFi standard. This will enable higher data transfer speeds.

What about Apple Intelligence and Siri?

Even though this is not an improvement in the hardware, Apple will probably announce more information about its in-house AI in connection with the new models during the keynote this evening.

• microphone: Apparently, the manufacturer is installing an improved microphone in all four models. This should improve communication with Siri in the future.
• Siri: Before the more intelligent Siri arrives, Apple is still working in the background on iOS 18.1, which will bring us the planned AI functions. The new Siri will probably not be available until the end of the first half of 2025, and we may even have to wait longer.
• Apple Intelligence: The AI ​​features unveiled at WWDC 2024 will be coming to the new models. There may be more information tonight about the planned update to iOS 18.1, which will include the new features.

When will the iPhone 16 be released?

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 will typically begin on Friday, September 13th, with sales typically starting one week after pre-orders.
