After the early access for pre-orders, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is now fully launched and it seems to have been a great success, judging by the player numbers on Steam.
The lively battle of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has had a successful start, at least according to the player numbers on Steam. According to SteamDB attracted a whopping 225,690 players to their mouse and keyboard at the same time – a really good number that is enough to put it in the top 10 most played games on Steam and of course it remains to be seen how long it can last.
But the chances are not bad, after all 80 percent of the now more than 30,000 user reviews for the shooter are positive, so it seems as if Saber Interactive and publisher Focus have done a lot of things right.
The reviews are also pretty positive, even if players still see some room for improvement. The straightforward, well-staged action with lots of fun gameplay is particularly praised. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is also a clear development compared to its predecessor, and the sheer implementation of the Warhammer universe is also a reason to be happy.
There is criticism, however, but it is often meant to be constructive. The main complaints are about technical problems such as bugs and some bumps in co-op and PvP, and there is also room for improvement in the game balance. The lack of support for widescreen formats is also generally criticized. Nothing that cannot be fixed with one or another patch, and the first one is already on the way, which should fix crashes and rendering errors, among other things, but also improve the servers and eliminate CPU problems.
So it seems as if simple gaming fun can actually lead to high player numbers these days. My colleague Dennis was also very impressed with the battlefield in his test of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2: “A full eleven years after the first part, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 manages to perfectly capture the essence of its predecessor. There’s no need to think too hard or work out tactics; instead, the plan is to just shoot blissfully. Within a few minutes, the body count rises into the four-digit range.”
