As announced and expected, Sony presented the new PS5 Pro in a relatively short livestream. You can expect a significant increase in performance, but also in price…
As part of the PlayStation presentation with Mark Cerny at 5 p.m., Sony officially confirmed the Playstation 5 Pro. After Cerny first spoke at length about the advantages of the PS5 and the DualSense controller, he finally got down to business with the reasoning behind the PS5 Pro. Gamers generally prefer the faster performance mode over the quality mode, which is usually set at 30 fps.
The improvements of the PS5 Pro are based on three pillars: one stronger GPU plus 28 percent faster memory, Upgrades for ray tracingwhich should work two to three times faster, and finally a AI-driven upscaling technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, basically Sony’s own counterpart to the DLSS or FSR of modern graphics cards. According to Cerny, the frame rates could be almost doubled with the PS5 Pro.
This means that the quality mode in games is generally playable with more stable and higher frame rates, while the performance mode at 60 fps offers significantly improved graphics quality, with examples including titles such as The Last of Us: Part II, Spider-Man 2 and Horizon: Forbidden West.
Other new features include the PS5 Pro Game Boost, which will ensure that more than 8,500 PS4 titles run smoothly on the new console and will also improve their image quality. Furthermore, the new console will support Wi-Fi 7 as well as VRR and 8K resolution. According to the description in the PlayStation Blog The console will come without a drive, but can be upgraded with a separately available Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, the price of which has unfortunately not yet been announced. The side panels will again be interchangeable.
Some games will also receive free updates to support the features of the PS5 Pro. The games will be labeled “PS5 Pro Enhanced”. These include Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
Much more exciting than anything else, however, is the question of price and delivery date. Anyone who wants to buy the new PS5 Pro will have to switch to instant soup for now. 799,99 Euro The console version is supposed to cost 1000 dollars, equipped with a 2TB SSD – a big plus compared to the old PS5 – as well as a DualSense controller and Astro’s Playroom as a free game.
