So here it is, folks: Sony has finally revealed its long-rumored PS5 Pro, but you’re not going to like the price.
During today’s PS5 tech presentation, PlayStation confirmed what we all knew already, which is that a PS5 Pro is coming. Years of rumors and some hints from PlayStation itself have suggested that this will happen at some point, but PS5 architect Mark Cerny gave us an in-depth look at this enhanced version of the current generation PlayStation console and how it will differ from the previous generation.
Like the PS4 Pro before it, the PS5 Pro brings a host of improvements to the table. The PS5 Pro has a larger GPU, improved ray tracing, and AI upscaling (called PSSR) to help handle the graphical load. The idea behind these big additions is that you should be able to get higher frame rates on your desktop without sacrificing visual fidelity. Cerny did several comparisons of the PS5 and PS5 Pro in both performance and fidelity modes to show the difference, and games look better and smoother.
