Six classics have made it to modern consoles thanks to Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. The collection was released for PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X in October 2023. A second collection has now been confirmed for the current edition of the Metal Gear Production Hotline series.
However, it is currently unclear when fans can look forward to the new games in the Metal Gear series. The production of the next Master Collection is facing a number of challenges, as series producer Noriaki Okamura revealed in the Hotline series.
One challenge is said to be the upscaling to HD quality. For the first collection, it is said that they were able to use existing HD ports. This luxury is not available for the second collection. The first Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which was released in November 2011 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, will have been a great help. This is because some of the games that are also part of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 were released in HD for the first time.
The lack of HD ports is not the only problem. After all, many of the Metal Gear Solid games that would be left for a second collection are already available in HD quality. However, according to Noriaki Okamura, these games bring their own problems. What these problems are, however, was not mentioned.
Nevertheless, a positive conclusion can be drawn: With these statements, Noriaki Okamura at least confirmed that a second Master Collection is planned, despite various challenges. He did not reveal which games it will contain.
The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 consists of the games Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Snake’s Revenge, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Accordingly, popular classics such as Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker or Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would be considered for a second collection.
