The iPhone 16 is now available for purchase, ahead of its September 20 release. If you want to be one of the first to own Apple’s latest handheld (which now comes with camera control), you’ll need to pre-order it. Certain combinations of models, storage, and colors tend to sell out, and you may have to wait a while to get exactly what you want.
Pre-orders begin at 5 a.m. PT on Friday, September 13. That’s 8 a.m. EST, 1 p.m. UK Standard Time, or noon UTC. Not sure what to buy? Check out our iPhone 16 guide to learn more about the new features and differences between the models.

Pre-order directly from Apple
Apple is a great place to buy your new iPhone. It’s one of the only places where you can get an unlocked model, without a specific carrier. This is especially useful if you have cell service from a carrier other than one of the major national carriers.
Apple offers trade-in deals with up to $650 off, but you’ll need to activate your device through a major carrier. There’s always some fine print you need to read, and Apple’s deals aren’t always as good as the ones you can get directly from carriers, but at least in the US, Apple’s “carrier-activated” deals pretty much mirror what you get directly from carrier stores.

Buy from a major carrier
The other way to preorder an iPhone 16 and ensure you get the model you want on September 20th is to buy directly from one of the major national carriers. Most of these carriers’ deals involve “free” phones or deep discounts offered as bill credits over multiple years and require you to pay off your iPhone gradually rather than all at once, and many require you to trade in a phone, open a new line, or both.
In the United States, try:
AT&T: Up to $830 off iPhone 16 or $1,000 off iPhone 16 Pro in bill credits over 36 months, must trade in an eligible phone and have an eligible postpaid unlimited voice and data plan.
T-Mobile: Up to $830 off iPhone 16 or $1,000 off iPhone 16 Pro in bill credits over 24 months with Go5G Next or Go5G Business Next plans. iPhone 16 Pro trade-in offer required.
Verizon: Get up to $1,000 off with the Unlimited Ultimate plan, up to $830 off with the Unlimited Plus plan, and up to $415 off with the Unlimited Welcome plan. Must trade in a phone.
Booster: You can get a full year of FREE Boost Mobile wireless service when you buy the iPhone 16 at full price on the $25/month Unlimited plan, or apply the offer to the $50/month Unlimited+ or $60/month Unlimited Premium plans. Available to new and existing customers, this offer has no trade-in or line requirements. Boost is also offering $1,000 off the iPhone 16 lineup with its $65/month Infinite Access plan, which includes unlimited 5G data, global roaming AND an upgrade to the latest iPhone every year. Boost Mobile customers who combine $1,000 off the iPhone 16 lineup with the Infinite Access plan and trade in an iPhone can receive up to $1,650 in credits or even get the iPhone 16 Pro Max for free.
