Black Myth: Wukong quickly became one of the biggest games of the year and could be getting an expansion sooner than some expected. A previously teased DLC is set to release as early as January 2025, according to a new report on the fantasy action game’s content plans.
“DLC for Black Myth Wukong will be released sometime around the Chinese New Year 2025,” said industry consultant Daniel Camilo tweeted today (about Insider Gaming). “That means late January or very soon after. That’s from very reliable first-hand sources that I’ve heard from.” He added that he doesn’t think the DLC would be nearly as popular as the base game, in part because Black Myth: WukongThe higher level of difficulty.

Although this is the first blockbuster release for console and PC from the Chinese studio, Black Myth: Wukong quickly became a hit on PS5 and Steam, breaking records for single-player games on Valve’s own store. The slick action and beautiful world weren’t new ground, but were praised for making the game feel free of some of the worst excesses of modern AAA bloatware.
Black Myth already has a new Game Plus mode that unlocks after completing the game, but I think it would be interesting if an expansion added a full-fledged Boss Rush mode against particularly challenging variants of the base game’s enemies. Exactly what an expansion contains is something we’ll likely find out next year, perhaps with a sneak peek at this year’s Game Awards?
