The story of the Sims continues, but you shouldn’t expect a The Sims 5.
During an investor day, EA painted a clearer picture of the direction the company is taking with The Sims franchise in the future. In the past, Kate Gorman, Vice President and General Manager for The Sims franchise at EA, explained to Variety, there were Sims 1, Sims 2, Sims 3 and Sims 4. These were always seen as replacements for the previous installment.
“What we’re really working on with our community is a new era for The Sims. We’re not working on replacements for past projects, we’re just adding to our universe. In doing so, you’ll find there are more ways to experience The Sims on different platforms, in different ways, across media, and in many more ways.”
Support for The Sims 4 is therefore more than ever and the company is continuing to roll out expansions, updates and fixes. But things will continue in a different way in the future. Gorman explained that they will no longer overwrite save games and progress, but they will still bring an HD simulation experience and everything that people have come to expect from The Sims 5 into the game.
The future is envisioned as one in which the community wants to preserve families and generations.
“These creations are your progress, your creation. We do not want to reset your progress to zero.”
The upcoming release of The Sims 4 Creator Kits is also part of these future plans. This will be the first time that entire collections created by players in the game will be officially published by EA and thus made accessible to all players.
