Most of us Star Wars fans are still cleaning up the Outlaws side campaign and taking plenty of photos ahead of the upcoming Lando-centric DLC, but we shouldn’t forget that another journey to the underworld of a galaxy far, far away is just around the corner. Skeleton Crew is currently ramping up marketing for its debut on Disney Plus in early December, and it sounds really fun.
Entertainment Weekly revealed more about Vane’s (the Nitro Pirate from The Mandalorian Season 3) new pirate friend and Jude Law’s mysterious Force-sensitive character, Jod Na Nawood, who, according to series creators/showrunners Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, could very well be a fresh take on the Jedi Knight.

“We kind of wanted to play with that lawlessness in the era we’re in… The Empire is gone, so we’re playing with a part of the galaxy where there’s a resurgence in piracy,” Ford said. If you didn’t know already, this new series is set in roughly the same era as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skull & Bones, the post-Return of the Jedi era. As the New Republic continues to rebuild and the threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn looms, a large part of the galaxy is left unattended, so pirates, crime syndicates, and the like are making a lot of money.
Introducing Vane, the pesky pirate who survived a Mandalorian attack in the show’s third season with Din Djarin and Grogu, he teams up with Urkel himself, Jaleel White, who plays the droid Gunter, Brutus (a Shistavanen who carries a lot of pistols), Pax (Gran looks adorable with his eyepatch), and Chaelt. “I’m also a big fan of Monkey Island… and this is classic Lucas. So somewhere between Pirates of Star Wars and Pirates of Monkey Island. I think we found our sweet spot,” Watts revealed after the first trailer, which says the adventure is very reminiscent of The Goonies and Stranger Things.
As for Jude Law’s mysterious character Jord na’Nawwood, who was seen using the Force in the first trailer, we’re pretty sure surprises will follow once we watch the show. For now, Ford mentioned that they want to introduce a brand new kind of Jedi, and Lucasfilm’s current chief creative officer Dave Filoni made sure that all of the duo’s new ideas would work within the larger Star Wars universe: “You feel like you can safely explore things creatively without making huge canon mistakes… and he did that, so he took both into account.” [mentoring under] George Lucas. So he had this idea of, ‘I want to create a new kind of Jedi,’ and then somebody said, ‘Okay, wait a minute. A lot of people have thought about this. Let’s do it the right way. ‘ That was helpful.”
The new photo shared by Lucasfilm and Entertainment Weekly (at the top of this post) makes Law’s character look very pirate-like and lawless, so maybe what we’re seeing here is a casual imitation of early Kyle Katarn, which is a bit disgusting. That being said, I’m also a little tired of a hundred Jedi running around while Luke carries the future of the Order on his shoulders alone, so hopefully this guy is just a Force-sensitive villain protecting the lost child at the center of the story.
