A few months ago I bought the iPad Pro M4 with the Apple Pencil Pro. I am a person who. I love creating mind maps, writing the agenda for the day… Fortunately, the time is over when I had to take long notes in high school… because yes, I have bad handwriting. My father has it, my brother has it… It doesn’t get to the point of being illegible (at least to me), but I certainly couldn’t sell my calligraphy in an aesthetic diary.
After the latest update of iOS 18, but also iPadOS 18, many new features have arrived on our iPhones and iPads: customization of the color of icons, new features in the Notes application. And it is precisely within this application that a new feature of iPadOS 18, left me very surprised from the first minute I use it.
Smart Script: the notes function that corrects and improves your writing with the iPad
We know what Apple and advertising are like. A little more and it makes you want to go to the desert to test the iPhone 16 Pro camera. As soon as I saw the Smart Script feature that improved our writing in iPadOS 18, I was. I can’t wait to try it in person to see if it was really as good as it looked.
But what is Smart Script? It’s a new feature in Notes that Edit and improve your writing slightly to make it more readable.. It has happened to all of us, especially in high school or college. We start the class with good handwriting, and as the minutes go by, our hand gets tired. We twist, we put the words together more… With this feature enabled, the iPad will correct our bad handwriting.
Smart Script analyzes our writing and learns from it. And as soon as we make a mistake, separate a letter too much, or even make it more illegible, This will automatically improve it for us while keeping our style. And the feature is amazing because it completely preserves each person’s handwriting type, it doesn’t replace it with similar letters or transcribe it. Learn how you write each letter so that when you don’t do it very well, you can simply change it. This feature is so smart that even if we make a few spelling mistakeswill add emphasis if needed.
How to enable Smart Script on iPad and which models support typing enhancement
This feature arrived with iPadOS 18. The first thing to do to take advantage of it is to update your iPad. To do this, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update.
Then, to enjoy Smart Script and improved writing, simply open the app Notes > Click on the brush palette > Icon… > Enable correction writing. You can also turn it off, and when you have written something that you want to correct, you will have to do so select the text and choose the straighten option.
Regarding compatibility, Smart Script will be available on the following models the iPad:
- iPad Pro M1 chip
- M2 chip for iPad Pro
- iPad Pro M4 chip
- M1 chip for iPad Air
- M2 chip for iPad Air

Smart Script has already become one of the most important features for me on the iPad, and it will allow me to use Notes as my primary writing app. Without a doubt, Smart Script is one of those features that makes the difference and makes the iPad my favorite device for daily productivity.
