There are characters that have been with us in this industry for a long time. Many of them have emerged thanks to their own merits, while others have behind them the support of decades of history. Some are born as heroes for the little ones, but also for the big ones. And it is here that we find a very appreciated mouse.
Mickey Mouse is the image of one of the most influential entertainment companies in the film and television industry. As expected, he has starred in many adaptations in the world of video games. However, there is one that we particularly liked and that offered something unexpected to this iconic character.

Disney’s Mickey’s Epic was the most striking installment of this brave mouse, plunging him into a dark and distressing world. Although he is a happy and beloved character, the game managed to capture this new dimension in a masterful way. Although it was released in 2010, it now returns with a remake that will make us relive the essence of the original game.

Technical section
We live in a time where many games from years ago are being salvaged, and many younger gamers will surely have missed them, either because they were stuck on previous platforms or because they didn’t receive adaptations for new generations.
This is where it comes in. Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrusheda remake of the game released in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii and relegated to this console. Fortunately, THQ Nordic gave it the opportunity to give it a second life.
The most remarkable thing about the title is its renewed visual and technical section. I speak from experience, since I attended its launch almost 15 years ago, and I could not be happier with what I see on the screen: a more than evident improvement compared to the original.
One of the most notable aspects is that it now has a 4K resolution and a much more vibrant color palette, reflecting the fact that we are dealing with much more advanced hardware. The level of detail has improved considerably, but fortunately the game has not lost its identity despite this facelift.
The essence of the title remains intact, with those dark and gloomy touches in some scenarios, a reflection of the events of its history. Although it maintains its style, there is a somewhat conservative approach, leaving the feeling that something more could have been done. However, we understand that this decision responds to the desire to maintain the original style.
The settings, characters and animations are beautiful and faithful to the original game. In the videos, you can see that classic style that marked the beginnings of Walt Disney in his first animations. The game is a clear homage to the origins of the company, and this is highlighted in this new adaptation.
Of course, we can’t talk about it Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed not to mention its sound section. The game retains the dubbing of voices in Spanish, although at very specific moments, as in the original version. The texts also maintain their essence, without complaining about what we hear or read.
As for the soundtrack and sound effects, they are still wonderful. The musical themes and sounds from the original game sound even better on this new hardware. Without a doubt, it more than fulfills this aspect.
Audiovisually, it is a beautiful game that retains its original essence. – Share!
In short, we are faced with an excellent adaptation of this version released on Nintendo Wii. We could say that it is its definitive version, with a set of improvements that revitalize the character and pay homage to the legacy of Walt Disney.
Gameplay
Every time a game that came out a long time ago comes back, there’s the question of whether it will surpass the original. That may seem like a bit of a stretch, but it’s something that needs to be evaluated, since the return of Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed In this remake, this should be a palpable improvement for players.
So, if you already know this game, you won’t be surprised by its story or what happens next. For the younger ones or those who don’t know it, I can tell you that it all starts when, somehow, Mickey Mouse finds himself involved in a disaster after going through a magic mirror.
So, our hero, driven by curiosity, observes how a talented magician creates, with a brush, a wonderful and unique world. However, when the magician leaves, leaving everything half-done, Mickey tries to reproduce his talent, but things go wrong and everything gets out of control.
Destroying part of this beautiful world with solvent, Mickey, in despair, runs away and returns through the magic mirror, thinking that everything was over. However, after several months of success in his own world, an enemy tracks him down, captures him and brings him back to this place.
This is where our adventure begins, under the gaze of a mad scientist and his device, who intend to destroy us. This is when, for the first time, we see Oswald (the first character created by Walt Disney) appear and we can control our little hero.
One of the first things you’ll notice when you start is that the camera has been greatly improved, as it was one of the weakest points in the original game. This improvement is very much appreciated. In addition, jumping or double jumping are still part of our repertoire, as is using the brush to perform two key actions.
We can dissolve or rebuild, each action being clearly represented: green to dissolve and blue to rebuild, consuming bars of both colors that appear on the sides of the screen. This system is one of the pillars of the gameplay.
This makes sense because Mickey accidentally destroyed this beautiful place with both elements, and part of our mission is to restore it. In battle, we will use these resources to eliminate enemies or turn them into allies.
The same goes for the scenarios, in which you can take advantage of the possibility of erasing or rebuilding parts of the structures to discover chests, secrets or simply advance the story. It all feels organic and natural.
It is a pleasant experience and the way the elements combine encourages us to continue exploring. It is clearly a 3D platform game, which is its strong point, with some 2D phases. You do not have to worry about the difficulty, since it is suitable for all types of audiences.
Another interesting aspect is the inclusion of missions, both the main ones, which are linked to our objective, and the secondary ones, which come from characters trapped in this misfortune.
As I mentioned before, it is not a difficult game, which is evident in the fights against enemies and some bosses, which we can overcome thanks to our efficient brush. In addition, there is a collection of items and trophies, an additional incentive, since some of these trophies will be displayed in an in-game cinema.
The film rolls that we recover will allow us to replay some levels. We access them from the cinema, where we will find cabins waiting for us to repeat these experiences, with a charming artistic style.
So far we have talked about known elements (except the cinematic phases for replay), but this remake also includes new features. Three new movements have been incorporated: the “dash”, which allows us to dodge attacks; the bomb jump, useful for eliminating enemies or escaping complicated situations; and finally, the possibility of running. Although they seem to be simple movements, they add a layer of freshness to the movements of our protagonist.
Also, remember that your actions have repercussions in the game. If you choose to dissolve instead of restore, the ending may change. Or, if you prefer to do good and follow the right path, you will get an ending worthy of your legacy.
In short, we find an excellent game for lovers of the platform genre, with a collection of objects, missions and a common good (but not always), which will captivate you in this fun and varied story, full of references to the world of Disney that will delight its followers.
A title for all types of players – Share!
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed It brings the necessary improvements in its gameplay, preserving the essence of this adventure but adapting it with more user-friendly and concrete options. This reflects a good evolution compared to what we saw in 2010, abandoning the touch controls of the Nintendo Wii to adopt a more traditional scheme, which seems well adapted. Whether you are a fan of Mickey Mouse or not, it is a superb platform game that you should not miss.
Duration
Although we are facing the remake of a game we already know, we are not surprised by its length. This visit will take us 12 to 15 pleasant hours.
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed It has an adequate duration to fully enjoy it. In addition, it has additions that invite to replay it, such as a kind of cinema where you can relive certain levels. To do this, you have to collect film reels during the game.
Additionally, it includes a vast gallery of videos and collectibles, ideal for those who like to reach 100%. It also has a photo mode, so you can spend time enjoying its artistic style. In short, there are many ways to have fun.
Conclusion
Remasters and remakes are back, some with more success than others. The important thing in this case is that our beloved mouse has made a comeback. Although it seems very faithful to the original game, this can play for or against, especially for players who enjoyed it back in the day, although on the other hand, some fans like me will be happy to relive this experience once again.
In addition, for the youngest, it is still fresh and friendly. I personally played the original version and comparing it to this remake, I can say that they did an excellent job. I also highlight the new mechanics, which make it more current.
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed It preserves its magical essence and adds audiovisual improvements that make it attractive to the little ones, without forgetting the veterans. Without a doubt, it has been a wonderful experience and I recommend you try it, because it deserves it and is available on your Xbox.
