Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is cut in the German version. A controversial scene, which was already changed in the original from 2009 compared to the international version in Germany, is also slightly restricted in the remaster.
Which scene exactly is it about? The cut concerns the "No Russian" mission, in which the character as a Russian soldier wages a massacre among civilians at an airport. In the story, the bloody deed serves the purpose of provoking a new world war – and caused a lot of discussion.
What was cut? In the international version, players can actively shoot civilians. In the cut German version, the mission is canceled. So this applies to both the 2009 original and the 2020 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered.
How was the original situation? Activision is releasing CoD: MW 2 in Germany in cut form and remains exactly the same in content as the old version, which had already been approved for sale by the USK testing agency eleven years ago with the seal "from 18 years".
The difference to social adequacy
The USK had made headlines in recent years primarily because the review organization changed its previous treatment of games with unconstitutional symbols in 2018. Since then, playing with swastikas has not been fundamentally refused by the USK, but checked for the existence of so-called social adequacy.
However, this new legal opinion only concerns unconstitutional symbols such as swastikas or SS runes, not an extreme depiction of cruelty as in the case of "No Russian" in CoD: MW2. You can watch more about this exciting topic in our plus video:

CoD: MW2 appears only partially in Russia
CoD MW2 faces problems because of the controversial “No Russian” mission, especially in Russia. Sony Russia has Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered in the PSN store completely denied publication. For PC and Xbox, on the other hand, the new edition appears regular.
Call of Duty has had problems in Russia in the past. The latest series of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare met with massive rejection among Russian players.
Critics were furious with the portrayal of Russian soldiers in the story campaign and covered the brand's channels with numerous protests.
We covered the scandal missions of the CoD series in a video and explain the most controversial scenes.
